Suggestions or Advice for Patients with Diabetic Foot Ulcers


For the prevention of diabetic foot ulcers is important that patients be informed about the routine must be considered. Should certain things become routine rules for people to keep in mind.

  • Check your feet every day, especially in between the toes.
  • Wash feet with soap and warm water.
  • Use cream for dry feet.

Diabetic foot ulcers with a mild infection

The nature of the infection:
  • the location of the surface,
  • with no bone abnormalities,
  • with no signs of toxicity.

The state of patients:
  • can cooperate,
  • obey the treatment,
  • the maximum available treatment.

Action:
  • Feet should be rested, should not be worn tread.
  • Antibiotics broadspektrum.
  • Culture and sensitivity test germs.
  • Debridement.
  • Local bandages, preferably twice a day dressing.
  • Other drugs - Pentoxifylline, cilostazol

Diabetic foot ulcers with severe infections

The nature of the infection:
  • ulcers in the infection.
  • usually accompanied by osteomyelitis,
  • lymphangitis
  • systemic toxic

Circumstances of the patient:
  • No gangrene,
  • septicemia
Action:
  • Immediate hospitalization, bed rest.
  • Photos foot.
  • Glycemic control.
  • Antibiotics broadspektrum i.v.
  • Culture and sensitivity test germs.
  • Change antibiotics as bacteria culture results.
  • Debridement, drainage of pus.
  • Arteriography if necessary.
